Professor Fiona Lobban
ProfessorResearch Overview
The aim of my research is to understand key factors underpinning mental health and wellbeing, and how best to support people who are experiencing mental distress. I am interested in mental health within a broad social context, and support offered online, by charity groups, through peer to peer interaction, and in clinical settings. I am keen to understand the positive and negative impacts of these forms of support, and the underlying mechanisms of how they work. To do this, I use a range of methodologies, drawing on both quantiative and qualitative approaches, and am increasingly intersted in working within a realist framework.
Currently, I am particularly interested in supervising PhDs in the following areas
1. Digital mental health
2. Social networks and their role in supporting mental health and wellbeing
3. Peer support
