Certainties about organising our lives, our work and our technologies are being challenged by unprecedented difficulties. It is more critical than ever to understand management and business, work and the future nature of work, and our dependence on technology in the coming years – the future will belong to those who can think about these topics and who understand how our world truly works.
This taster lecture invites students to engage in exercises based on real-life practical scenarios that managers face every day, such as interviewing prospective employees, dealing with disputes, and negotiating change within their organisations.
In a rapidly-changing world, the roles of work and entrepreneurship are metamorphosing, perhaps more than ever before: AI, VR, AR and the metaverse are transforming the way we work and do business. However, this is just the start. What exciting developments does the future hold for us?
The development of social media empowered individuals in many ways. We can communicate faster, we are more visible in the public space and our voices are being heard. It also provided businesses with an amazing set of tools to further extend their presence in our lives. Getting feedback and ideas, making viral promotions and providing savings on many aspects of running a business are just some of the benefits of engaging online.
This session will aim to uncover some of the benefits of social media for businesses, and what’s more, look at some of the questionable practices and challenges that social media presence brings.
Assets are what companies use to make their sales and drive business growth. They are a key piece of financial information that accountants deal with. But for many companies, their most valuable assets are the hardest to value. In this session, we will look at how assets are valued at some of the biggest companies by accountants.
To study ‘management’ and ‘business’ means to study the ways in which human decisions arise, how they are made and where they are pointing. To understand decisions means, in turn, to ask what is the object of decisions? Each and every business and management decision, however small, is the outcome of a value judgement. What is, then, value and what is of value today?
Disruptions in supply chains have been making headline news over the last few years. The session will explore the strategic importance of supply chains and the procurement process.
