Pendle BrewFood Projects
Pre-School allotment
In April 2024, the Lancaster University Pre-School Centre on campus created an allotment on the veranda at the rear of the building. They repurposed old containers and tyres to use as planters and are growing strawberries, carrots, garlic, potatoes, peas, runner beans, beetroot, courgettes, tomatoes, and a variety of herbs. They use the space to teach the children about composting, plants and growing food.
ECOHub
The ECOHub is a secluded 4000m2?nature-based garden on South West Campus, with a focus on sustainable agricultural production, used by student societies and some of our Lancaster Environment Centre teaching modules. Boasting some 40 raised planting beds, a fruit tree orchard, and soft fruits.
Beehives
The ECOHub allotment area hosts beehives that are looked after by staff volunteers. Each year the bees produce delicious honey, that is sold in the ReStore Lancaster shop on campus.
EcoEats
EcoEats is a project that aims to teach students cooking skills, and food sustainability and help with the cost of living crisis, by focusing on healthy, nutritious meals on a budget. It features regular cooking classes, food events, and student socials throughout the year.
Water
We're committed to making free drinking water accessible for students and staff and we have a number of water fountains across campus. By adding more fountains, we are hoping to reduce single-use plastic on campus.?
